Celebrating Womens' Day - Great Womens' of India

This post is dedicated to "International Womens' Day". here, i've pointed out 10 Indian creame Lady immortals, i think 've played a major role in phase shift. Though number tends to infinity, but i've to restrain to 10 only, else: we do 've respect for them all. So, here it goes:

The worth of a civilization can be judged by the place given to women in the society. In India, they occupied a high place in the social life of the early Aryans. The milder and more beneficent forces of nature were addressed as female deities and invoked with prayers. In medieval and modern India women have distinguished themselves, no less than men, in various spheres of life as rulers, leaders, fighters, saints, scholars, writers, social workers, artistes, warriors, politicians, administrators and diplomats. In the freedom struggle they stood shoulder to shoulder with their menfolk and fought the British rule determinedly, heroically and stoically...

# 1 Jashi Ki Rani Laxmi Bai

It was the year 1857

She fought faught against the mayhem

her name is honoured perpetually

sandburst takes a leaf,

from her book continually.

Rani Laxmibai's courage, deeds of valour and heroic battle against the British have become the theme of many a folklore and ballad in the country. She is the immortal warrior the country has ever seen. She was fatally wounded in the battle and she breathed her last on 18-06-1858.

# 2 Mother Teresa - Social Reformer

Mother Teresa cut a lovely furrow

to her heart was supplementation of bone marrow

limping city was given a helping hand.

everyone thought she had a magic wand.

Will she become the first saint to be canonized in our time? The frail, bent figure with the distinctive blue stripe has now become a worldwide symbol for compassion. She heard the call to server God when she was 12, came to India, started the Missionaries of Charity. She reached out to all those whom the world abandoned.

# 3 1st Lady Prime Minister - Mrs. Indira Gandhi

Clad in a Saree, Indiara Gandhi wore pants

India's first lady prime minister, politics was always a part of Indira Gandhi's world. She joined her father's Congress Party in 1938 and was jailed for awhile by the British for her support of India's independence from Great Britain. After her father's death, she was elected to Parliament in his place, becoming Prime Minister herself in 1966. She continued many of her father's policies, such as pressing for land reform and the nationalization of banks. But India endured great economic troubles during her watch. Managed well through out during 1971 Indo-Pak war, it was her clever mind's play to divide Pak into two parts; n she succeded.

In 1984 she met a brutal death at the hands of Sikh assassins in retaliation for her forceful actions (Operation Blue Star, in 1983, in Golden Temple, Amritsar) to cease disturbances in the sacred Temple.

# 4 Lata Mangeshkar - Voice of the Millenium

She's is a highly known playback Singer in the Indian Hindi movie industry. Mangeshkar's career started in 1942 and has spanned over six decades. She has done playback singing for over 980 Bollywood movies, and has sung songs in over twenty Indian Languages.

Lata is the second vocalist to receive "Bharat Ratna", India's highest civilian honour.

Mangeshkar was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for "most recordings" in the world.

# 5 Kiran Bedi

Promoting juniors out of turn

Kiran Bedi, Ph.D, is India’s first and highest ranking (retired in 2007) woman officer who joined the Indian Police Service in 1972. Her experience and expertise include more than 35 years of tough, innovative and welfare policing.
She has worked with the United Nations as the Police Advisor to the Secretary General, in the Department of Peace Keeping Operations. She has represented India at the United Nations, and in International forums on crime prevention, drug abuse, police and prison reforms and women’s issues.

Recipient of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award (also called the Asian Nobel Prize), and several other decorations.

# 6 Shobhaa Dé - renowned writer

Shobhaa Dé is a Columnist n novelist often called India's Jackei Collins. . After making her name as a model, she began a career in journalism in 1970, in the course of which she founded and edited three popular magazines – Stardust, Society, and Celebrity. At present, she is a freelance writer and columnist for several newspapers and magazines

# 7 Indra Nooyi - CEO, Pepsi India Co.

She has galloped as CEO Pepsi Co.

She is the chairman and chief executive officer of Pepsi Co., the world's fourth-largest food and beverage company. On August 14, 2006, Nooyi was named the successor to Steve Reinemund as chief executive officer of the company. She was effectively appointed as CEO by PepsiCo's board of directors on October 1, 2006. According to the polls Forbes magazine conducted, Nooyi ranks fifth on the 2007 list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women. Nooyi has been named the #1 Most Powerful Woman in Business in 2006 and 2007 by Fortune magazine.

# 8 Kiran Majumdar Shaw - founder of Biocon

She founded Biocon India with a capital of Rs. 10,000/- in her garage in 1978. The initial operation was to extract an enzyme from papaya. Her application for loans was turned down by banks on three counts – biotechnology was then a new word, the company lacked assets, and (most importantly) women entrepreneurs were still a rarity.

She is a civic activist, especially with respect to municipal administration in Bangalore. She is also an art collector. She has authored 'Ale and Arty,' a Coffee table book about brewing beer illustrated by paintings of some of India's renowned artists.

# 9 Ms. Sania Mirza - a talented Lawn Tennis Player

she is not interested in non-sensical fad.

She is the highest ranked female tennis player ever from India, with a career high ranking of 27 in singles and 18 in doubles. She was ranked 31st in the singles category and 18th in the doubles category in the WTA rankings of January 7, 2008. Sania Mirza holds the distinction of being the first Indian woman to be seeded in a Grand Slam tennis tournament when she was seeded 26th in the 2007 U.S. Open. Earlier in 2005, she had become the first Indian woman to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament at the 2005 U.S. Open. She's indeed proud of our Country.

# 10 Aishwarya Rai - who donno her

She is an internationally renowned Indian actress. Before starting her acting career, she worked as a model, and gained fame after winning the Miss World contest in 1994.Often touted as the most beautiful woman in the world.
